I love spaghetti and meatballs and I always have! I was so disappointed when I first went Low FODMAP to find out that most store bought meatballs and tomato sauces actually contain garlic, onion and wheat too. So despite how easy store bought meatballs are after a long day at work, they’re a no go for me.

The good news though? Homemade meatballs are super easy to whip up and can be made low FODMAP and gluten free really easily. The ones I made tonight took me only 20 minutes to make and by the end of it I had a low FODMAP version of one of my absolute favourite meals.

If you fancy making these low FODMAP and gluten free meatballs in a spicy tomato sauce, give them a try by following the simple recipe below!
Low FODMAP and gluten free spaghetti and meatballs in a spicy tomato sauce (makes roughly 10 small meatballs)
You’ll need:
- 175g lean pork and beef mince
- 1 slice of gluten free bread (grated finely)
- Chilli flakes (to your own spice level)
- a pinch of Italian herbs
- pinch of salt and pepper
- 1 can of tomato passata
- 1 carrot (chopped)
- a few florets of broccoli (chopped)
- Gluten free spaghetti
Method:
- Cook your gluten free spaghetti in a pan of boiling water according to the packets instruction.
- In a large bowl, mix together the mince, the breadcrumbs, chilli flakes, herbs, salt and paper. Using you hands, mix all ingredients together until fully combined.
- Using a small amount of mixture (about a teaspoonful), roll into small balls. Continue until all of the meat mixture has been used.
- In a hot frying pan, begin to fry off the meatballs until browned. Add the vegetables and continue to cook for 5 minutes.
- Add the tomato passata and the chilli flakes to the meatballs and allow to simmer for a further 5 minutes.
- Serve on top of gluten free spaghetti and enjoy hot.
